THE INSTITUTE OF

The Marginal and Imaginary Regions

Remains imaginary as of:

Mot and I have now tested three imaginary titles, and in every case, the boat took us to some clouds. In the sequence depicted here, we see the boat travelling into an imaginary book called “Enthralled by New York”, a title derived from random selection of phrases in Calvin Tomkins’s “Duchamp”.

Here is what we saw inside the imaginary book that had been assigned an imaginary title:

tiny boat with orange cloud for a sail, floating in apparently empty space

Other imaginary titles yielded similar results, though the cloud colours and formations varied. We tried:

  • Enthralled by New York
  • The Penciled Mustache, and
  • A Brilliant Aroma

For our next experiment, Mot is working on a method that will allow us to test a real book.
